Frequently Asked Questions

If your question or concern is not answered here, please e-mail us. We will try our best to give you an answer.

1.

I want to pay using PayPal. How does this work?
Just click on the PayPal icon next to the course you are taking. You will be sent to the PayPal site. If you don’t already have a PayPal account, you can sign up for one there. If you already have an account, simply fill in the appropriate information and submit it. When your order had been accepted and processed, you will be taken to the course registration form.

2.

Does it cost me anything to use PayPal?
No, PayPal will not charge you. We pay PayPal a portion of our course fee so we do not have to maintain and manage a credit card account. This is one way we can keep our cost down and pass the savings onto you and your department.

3.

I’m nervous about using my credit card on-line. Is PayPal secure?
PayPal uses SSL technology to keep your information safe. In addition, when you send a payment using PayPal, the recipient won't receive sensitive financial information like your credit card or bank account number.

4.

After I pay with PayPal, what happens next?
After you have made your payment with PayPal and the transaction was accepted, you will be taken to a course registration page. Here you will complete our registration form This form includes your name, social security number and other information we need to ensure you get your TCLEOSE credit. Because we are asking for your social security number, we have made this is a secure form. We have taken all precautions within our ability to protect you and your sensitive data. If we didn’t need some of this information, we wouldn’t ask for it. TCLEOSE requires it all their courses.

5.

I’m not sure I understand how this on-line testing works. Can you walk me through the whole process?
OK. Once your payment has been accepted and you have filled out your registration form, you can begin your course. You will be taken to a confirmation page when your registration form has been sent. That confirmation page will have a user name and password to get you into the course you have selected. Enter the user name and password at the log-in page and you will be taken to the appropriate course. Each course is laid out so it should be easy to follow for one learning objective to the next. Once you have read all course material, you can either take a practice test or go straight to the final exam. The practice test does not count toward your grade but we encourage you to take it. Your test results will be displayed at the end of the exam. When you are ready to take the final exam, there is no time limit. Once you have finished it, click the submit button and your test will be sent to the instructor for grading. You will be notified within 48 hour of your score. If you pass the final exam, a certificate will be sent to the address you gave us on the registration form. We will then send your results to TCLEOSE so you can get credit for the course.

6.

I live outside of Texas. Can I still take the courses there?
Yes you can! You will also be sent a certificate upon successful completion. We are only accredited in Texas at this time which means only Texas peace officers will get TCLEOSE credit.

7.

When I filled out the registration form and tried to submit it, I don’t think it was sent out.
If your registration form was sent successfully, you will be taken to a confirmation page which will give you a user name and password. If you didn’t get sent to that page, something went wrong. Some computers set up a LAN or behind a firewall may give you a problem. This might happen if you have older computers and you are trying to do this from work If you encountered this situation, try to go to your home computer to submit the registration form. If this is not an option, you can print the registration form, fill it out and fax it to 817-485-1379.

8.

When I finished the First Responder course I took the final exam and tried to submit it for grading. I don’t think the e-mail went out.
The most common reason for this is that your internet browser (Internet Explorer of Netscape) is not integrated with your e-mail program (Outlook or Outlook Express). For the test submission to work properly, your e-mail program must be set up to work through your browser. Most home computers do not have this problem. It is most often seen in department computer systems that use a LAN. If you encountered this situation, try to go to your home computer to submit the test for grading. If this is not an option, follow this link to the test answer sheets. Print it out and use it to take your test. When you are finished, fax it to 817-485-1379. You will be notified of your results within 48 hours.

9.

I’m uncomfortable with entering my social security number on the registration form. Can I fax my registration form instead of filling it out on-line?
Yes. Fax it to 817-485-1379. We understand your concern but we want you to know that we have done everything within our means to make this a secure transaction.

10.

I want to pay with a credit card. Do I have to use PayPal?
Yes. In an effort to keep our costs down, we opted to go with PayPal instead of maintaining credit card processing on site.

11.

I am paying with a city check. Do I have to wait for the check to clear before beginning my course?
Yes. After we receive the check, you can start the course.

12.

I took the final exam for the Sudden Custody Death Syndrome and did not pass. Can I take the test again?
Yes you can take the final exam again. It is not the same exact test though. We will send you the link as soon as it is determined you have not passed. We would encourage you to go back through the course to refresh your memory before taking the second exam. You may want to consider taking the practice test first.

13.

I took one of your courses and want to take some more. When will you have additional courses available
We will post additional courses as soon as they have been approved by TCLEOSE. We can add you to an e-mail list to let you know when new courses have been posted.

14.

I do not have a sound card on my computer. Will I be missing part of the course if I do not have sound?
No. The sound only enhances the course but it is not necessary to have.

15.

I took the First Responder course and thought it would be helpful in a class I will be teaching soon. Am I allowed to download or print the course and use it for myself?
No. These courses are the property of Texas Police Central and cannot be used in any other form without the written consent of the instructor.

16.

I’m an Oklahoma police officer and want to get credit through the State commission on law enforcement for taking these classes. Are you accredited in any other State besides Texas?
Not yet. We are applying to several State commissions in an effort to give you the appropriate credit.

17.

I have a question to ask the instructor of the SCDS course. How do I get in touch with him and does it cost extra?
You can go to the contact page for information on e-mail addresses, phone numbers, the message board and our chat line. You can also try to contact the instructor on Microsoft Instant Messenger. There is no additional charge for this.

18.

I noticed there was a video clip on the First Responder course. I couldn’t get it to play. What gives?
I could be because you need to download an additional plug-in These downloads are usually free. If you are using a department computer, you may have to contact your system administrator to get the plug-in installed. If you can’t get it installed, don’t worry about it too much. The video clips only enhance the course. They are not necessary for you to complete the course.
